Sunday morning couch reflections.
I’m giving my body the quiet space it needs to process everything from Thursday. While those intense pressure headaches are finally backing off (huge win!), the facial swelling has officially peaked today. Looking in the mirror is a bit surreal, but it’s all a normal part of the healing process! The slides blend my timeline from Friday to this morning—showing my physical healing right alongside the progression of these new pieces. 🫣

Being stuck resting doesn’t mean my hands can stay still. 😅 I’m using this quiet downtime to create these hand-woven agate and crystal holders, using a true four-way rounded braid technique I just mastered yesterday! ✨ It takes a little longer, but the gorgeous dimension and rugged texture it adds to the stones is so worth it.

❤️Thank you all so much for the sweet messages this weekend—they mean the world. Still resting, but stepping back into creating mode, one step at a time.

Our trip to Mayo was a success, and it went as smoothly as we could have possibly hoped. I’m taking it very easy today to let some post-procedure swelling and soreness settle down. Yesterday brought some massive headaches along with it, so today is all about keeping things completely low-key to keep them far away! Even with the soreness, my heart is incredibly full.
Swiped through my phone this morning and wanted to share a few glimpses of the trip—the pups all settled being the best co-pilots, our “home-away-from-home” setup, the dog run (on the 6th floor!), the beautiful view of St. Mary’s right across from our window, and me in my scrubs just before the head frame went in.

But the real MVP of this trip was definitely my husband. He was in absolute superhero mode from the literal moment we arrived on Wednesday. We were stuck driving through heavy construction trying to find a drop-off spot, the light turned red right across from Mayo, and I just jumped out of the car to run to my appointment—leaving him to navigate the traffic, figure out parking, and manage all three pups without even knowing where the heck I went! 😂
Then yesterday, he was still a total powerhouse—managing all three dogs, checking us out of the hotel, bringing the car around, and keeping everything completely stress-free for me while I finished up my medical procedure. 👑 ❤️

‼️⚠️(Note: These last two slides may be graphic to some, but it’s a real part of this journey! The frame itself was easily the hardest thing I’ve ever felt, but the final shot is the best feeling in the world: heading home, all gauzed up, with Louie keeping close right by my side. 🤍)

Today is a day of reflection for me. My mom would have been 65 today.

When I think of her, I think of her fanny pack—the one always filled with hearing aid batteries, super glue, and so much more. She never went without a fresh coat of nail polish, and she always had hair that gave her a few extra inches of height. I think of the way she’d spot a beautiful flower on the side of the road—even if it meant ‘borrowing’ one from a garden—and bring it home to dry and turn into a beautiful swag for the house. Or when she didn’t hear you and she’d say “Do-what-a-huh!?” 🤣

She was an incredibly talented drawer, and I see her influence every time I sit down at my own easel. But more than anything, she taught me how to find the silver lining. She walked the same hard road I am on with NF2, and she fought her battle with a grace that still guides me today.

I get signs that she’s watching over me all the time—certain songs come on at the right moment, or I’ll notice a certain light. I feel her presence in the studio and even while I’m driving, and it brings me so much comfort.

Mom, thank you for the resilience you passed down to me and for always being my light.

This morning, we walked the trail and we couldn’t help but stop to admire these wild roses—so soft and inviting for the bees, yet guarded by those incredible, sharp thorns. It’s a beautiful reminder that there is strength in both our gentleness and our boundaries. 🌿✨

Speaking of new beginnings, I’m so excited to share that Ash and Earth Studio will be joining the Land of the Loon Ethnic Arts & Crafts Festival this year! It’s been a goal of mine to be part of this community event, and I’m so honored to be officially accepted!

I’ll be bringing a whole collection of new pieces, including some that were inspired by mornings just like this one—found textures, earth-toned stones, and the spirit of the woods. Hope to see you there!

Being raised a ‘tom-boy’ by you was the best gift I could have asked for. You taught me to get my hands dirty, value hard work, and never take yourself too seriously (as long as you have a good dad joke ready to go). Whether we were out fishing, hitting big wakes on the tube, or you showing me the ropes of a project, you taught me that the best things in life are the ones we create ourselves.

Started the morning at Giants Ridge, then swapped my work sneaks for sandals to head out for a walk with the pack. The sky was an impossible blue, the girls were happy, and Louie—well, he’s still setting a pace the rest of us can’t match! 🐾
We did have to cut the walk short thanks to the relentless Northwoods flies, but with dinner time approaching, it was the perfect excuse to head home.
It’s these transitions—from work focus to fresh air—that keep me balanced. Grateful for the afternoon breeze and the chaos of this beautiful life.
I’m so excited to finally share that the Ash and Earth Studio site will be fully live by tomorrow evening! I’m still putting the finishing touches on some of the collection, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share the pieces that are ready to find their new homes.

Just sharing a little glimpse of what I’ve been working on at the studio today—honestly, I loved how this piece turned out so much I had to wear it right out the door!

This new artifact features a glassy, tumble-polished Lake Superior Agate suspended in a high-tension dual drill-spun copper helix frame.

The Specs:
• Frame: Heavy 16-gauge copper, dual-drill spun & hand-hammered.
• Binding: Ultra-fine 26-gauge copper wire weave, locking the stone in place.
• Build: 100% cold-connection metalwork—completely solderless, raw, and durable.

I have a few more of these stunning tumbled agates waiting on my workbench, and I’m letting you make the call on the design direction.

I have a confession: for the longest time, I’ve been calling the massive, grounding tree in my backyard a “Pine.” I’ve watched the birds fly through it, watched/ played with the pups under it, and felt its quiet medicine. But today, I stopped to truly look closer.
It turns out, she isn’t a Pine at all. She is a magnificent Spruce. 🌲
In spiritual traditions, the Spruce is a symbol of ancient peace, intuition, and deep emotional healing—acting as a protective umbrella that holds a quiet, sacred space underneath its heavy boughs. It’s the exact spot I’ve been retreating to for months whenever I need to clear my mind, long before I knew its true name.
Nature always keeps revealing new layers to us when we slow down and actually listen. ✨

I rushed home from my shift today ready to do absolutely nothing but soak up this beautiful 86°F weather with the pups—though Ginger was definitely loving it extra! 🐾 But “Agate in the Atmosphere” was pulling so hard at my mind that I had to sit down at the digital bench first to share the excitement!

Talk about a whirlwind shift in energy! I worked earlier today, and as soon as I got home, I immediately changed into my summer clothes to get outside and soak up this gorgeous 86°F weather. But “Agate in the Atmosphere” was pulling so hard at my mind that I had to sit down right here at the bench first to share the excitement with you all!

I just got home a couple of hours ago and wanted to show you the beauty in these stunning Lake Superior agates before relaxing with the family.

The ones on the left are completely raw, just as nature sculpted them. The beautiful polished ones on the right were a sweet donation from my aunt and uncle (the amazing uncle who just drove me all the way to Mayo and back, while my wonderful husband stayed back to hold down the fort with the pups! 🐾).

I love using both textures for inspiration in my art, but I’m curious—which style do you naturally find your spirit or eyes drawn to?

I spotted these little baby pines cone growing on my big pine tree and had to do a complete double-take—they look exactly like wild summer strawberries hiding in the branches!
No filters, no edits, just pure Northwoods magic right outside my door.
It’s these tiny, unexpected details in my neck of the woods that always spark the most inspiration for my jewelry designs at the forge, as well as my landscape and wildlife paintings. Nature always gives me the perfect color palettes and textures if I just slow down enough to look.

Big News!! I am officially the CEO of Ash and Earth Studio LLC! 🌿✨

Yesterday, May 14th—a day of perfect balance and harmony—the paperwork is in the mail.
Why now? I’ve been an artist since I was four, but it was my cousin Holly who truly motivated me to pick up the brush and tools again. We share a deep bond through our NF2 journey and the memory of our mothers (who were sisters). Her encouragement was the spark I needed to return to my craft, and I’m so grateful for that push.

I come from a family of meticulous makers. My mother was a Navy veteran and a phlebotomist; my father is a retired golf course architect who is always building something; and my bonus mom is a master of quilts and paintings. They taught me that the magic is in the detail. In my studio, that is my focal point. I’m obsessed with capturing the unique characteristics that make a soul or a piece of art stand out.

Since it’s NF Awareness Month, this launch means the world to me. Living with NF2—a journey I shared with my mom—has taught me to find the “glass half full” in every challenge. My art is how I turn that intention into something tangible.
